Last October saw a unique gathering of women at Mtengo Wa Mbalame Primary school in Mozambique. This was the venue for a 2-3 day conference organised and hosted by the National Committee of the Chiyanjano Ladies Fellowship groups of the Zambesi Evangelical Church.
A section of the great crowd
Simon Chikwana, ZM's Director in Malawi, comments,
"The event was aimed at having fellowship with Mozambique women and at the same time helping the younger Church in Mozambique to learn from their Malawi friends 'As iron sharpens iron..'( Prov.27:17)"
Preparations had been going on for several months and even though a good crowd was expected it is doubtful if anyone anticipated the many thousands of ladies who attended. Such were the numbers crossing from Malawi in buses, minibuses, lorries and private cars that the immigration authorities resorted to stamping written lists of passengers for each vehicle rather than checking passports!
These ladies, all of whom had been encouraged to save a little money towards the transport and food, joined the thousands from Mozambique for times of worship, fellowship and Bible teaching. Accommodation was provided on the floor of the school buildings and under temporary canvas shelters whilst each group provided and cooked the food.
Simon Chikwana writes,
"It was a great time of preaching and teaching the Word of God and testimonies are that many women confessed their sins and turned to Christ. A womens conference like this has never happened before in the history of ZEC! It was time of unification after some of the trying and painful moments the ZEC Church has gone through recently".
Please pray ~
that this remarkable event will continue to impact the lives of individuals and the Church as a whole in both Mozambique and Malawi:
for the many Chiyanjano groups which meet each week for worship and study;
for the many ladies who are reaching out with God's love in orphan care and hospital and prison visiting.
Womens guild organised a trip to Mozambique that was on 22-25 September, 2011.
