Christmas Gifts 2009

Writing to the Church in Philippi, Paul made it very clear that our great God frequently passes on His gifts through His people. People like Epaphroditus, the Philippians themselves (Ch 4: 14-19) - and US!

Christmas provides a special opportunity to share the many good things God has given us. You will probably find you are struggling to think of a suitable gift for a family member or friend. Why not choose something from this leaflet and send the cost (or whatever part of it you can manage) so that we can give the gift to someone in Africa?

Your friend here probably has nearly everything but your brother or sister in Africa might well have virtually nothing - until you share God's love this Christmastime.

Our presents can help to show and share His presence in a very practical way!

Our God is able to supply every need..

..and He usually does it through His people !

Church Planter in Mozambique
£45

Evangelists are busy in several parts of this large country, mostly in difficult and remote locations. Even when their congregations grow it takes a considerable time before a Fellowship is able to support its pastor. For this reason ZM tries to find sponsorship to help him and his family for the first three years of his ministry. Only the Lord can plant and build His Church but He gives us the privilege of helping! This gift will provide a month's support for one of these evangelists.

A Bible
£7

As new Churches are planted and grow, more and more Bibles are needed. Most folk could not possibly afford to buy one but we can help to build up a small Church supply so that a copy is always available for personal meditation and preparation.

Students in Bible College
£58

Evangelists, pastors, elders and other leaders in the growing Churches often lack good Bible training. One of the reasons is that college fees, although moderate, are well beyond the means of most Churches and individuals in Africa. A year's sponsorship of a student at the Evangelical Bible College of Malawi averages around £700. This is frequently made up from several smaller contributions. The figure shown would meet a month's fees but any gift is very helpful.

Child Health Care
£7

Only about 1 in 4 Malawians receive any health care and in rural areas the situation is usually much worse with the result that diseases which could be readily treated are often fatal for children and adults alike. A small gift would enable staff in one of the Church's rural clinics to give 23 children six month's vital treatment against worms which causes pneumonia and many other life threatening problems.

A Church Roof

£297

While most of us hold our Christmas services in fine buildings, many people in Africa will worship in the most basic surroundings. Some will be in the open air, others have nothing more than a shelter and some will have got as far as firing bricks and building walls but the cost of corrugated iron sheets for a weatherproof roof is beyond the means of most congregations.Even if you cannot manage the entire roof a smaller gift would provide some of the iron sheets!

Feed an orphan child
£8

This gift will feed and care for a child for one month in one of the Orphan Day Care Centres that ZM is helping the national Christians to run. Here the young children receive the help which cannot be given by the homes that have taken them in - health care, clothing, education, and nourishing meals.

Study Books for Church Leaders
£25

Many pastors and other Church leaders are faithfully teaching their congregations and small groups with few if any study materials available to them. Books received when leaving Bible College, or during a Leaders' Refresher Conference may well be the only ones they ever own! Since most of the available books are in English, a special concern is to provide resources in the national Chichewa language. This will involve some translation projects.
